چکیده
The effect of iron-fortified cow’s milk on body 59 Fe and 54 Mn retention and selective tissue distribution has been studied in newborn rats. Six-day old rats, divided into three groups were artificially fed for 7 hrs 0.45 ml of cow’s milk or cow’s milk enriched with either 52 or 103 lL9 of Fe/ml and marked with 59 Fe and 54 Mn. After 4 days there was no significant difference in whole body or

Effects of iron status on transpulmonary transport and tissue distribution of Mn and Fe.
Manganese transport into the blood can result from inhaling metal-containing particles. Intestinal manganese and iron absorption is mediated by divalent metal transporter 1 (DMT1) and is upregulated in iron deficiency. Since iron status alters absorption of Fe and Mn in the gut, we tested the hypothesis that iron status may alter pulmonary transport of these metals. DMT1 expression in the lungs...
متن کاملThe effect of riboflavin deficiency in rats on the absorption and distribution of iron.
1. Riboflavin may play a part in the transport of iron across the gastrointestinal mucosa. Fe absorption was measured in the rat by monitoring whole-body retention of a dose of 59Fe using a small-animal gamma-counter. 2. Female Norwegian Hooded rats were fed on a diet deficient in riboflavin (B2-) from 5 weeks of age. Control animals, fed on a complete diet (B2+), were weight-matched to rats fe...

OBJECTIVE To compare iron absorption from infant formula and iron-fortified cow's milk. METHODS Twenty-four weanling Wistar rats were maintained in metabolic cages during the whole experiment (10 days). On the first day, the animals were divided into three similar groups according to their weight, length, hematocrit and hemoglobin levels: 1) infant formula; 2) powdered whole cow's milk fortif...
متن کاملLead and iron absorption from rat small intestine: the effect of dietary Fe deficiency.
1. When lead is administered in drinking-water iron-deficient rats retain more Pb than Fe-replete rats (Six & Goyer, 1972; Klauder & Petering, 1975). In the present study the relationship between the absorption of Pb and Fe was investigated. 2. Adult male rats were transfered to a milk-based diet fed with or without supplementary Fe (180 mg Fe/kg as ferrous sulphate). After 7--9 d the absorptio...
متن کاملAntibodies to lactoferrin. A possible link between cow's milk intolerance and autoimmune disease.
Lactoferrin is an iron-binding protein present in external secretions and the secondary granules of neutrophils Its function is unknown, although immunomodulatory, antiinfective and nutritional roles have been proposed 11 I. Recently autoantibodies to lactofemn have been found as a component of anti-neutrophil cytoplasmic antibodies (ANCA) in patients with various autoimmune diseases 121. Why l...
